“What Does It Mean To Be a Church Member?”

“We Are Unified”

Acts 2:42-47

 

Acts 2: 42-47

⁴² They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 

⁴³ Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 

⁴⁴ All the believers were together and had everything in common. 

⁴⁵ They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 

⁴⁶ Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 

⁴⁷ praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

 

Why Does It Matter?

• We must be unified for one purpose and one purpose alone, to win the world for Jesus Christ.
• Christian unity is important because:
  • It beings God Glory
  • It is a testimony
  • It is an example of worship

 

What Unifies Us?

• Our unity is founded on Jesus!
• Paul gives us seven marks/points of spiritual unity (Ephesians 4:4-6):
  • One Body
  • One Hope
  • One Lord
  • One Baptism
  • One Spirit
  • One Lord
  • One Faith
  • One God and Father of all

Ephesians 4:4-6

⁴ There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 

⁵ one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 

⁶ one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

 

How Do We Seek Unity??

• The church in Acts was unified because they demonstrated three things:
  • Everyone placed themselves in service to others.
  • They placed the needs of others ahead of their own greed.
  • They gave up their precious possessions in order to help those in poverty. 

 

What Is The Result Of Unity?

• Great Spirituality
• Great Power
• Great Grace
